OUR THRIFT STORE CHANGES LIVES

“While working at the thrift store as part of my work therapy in the Life Change Program, I worked with people who had stronger faith in Christ and explained the Bible to me in much simpler terms. That’s when I started believing and trusting… my faith is stronger today because of those conversations.”
– Ryan, a Life Change Program graduate

COVID-19 Updates

We are taking all necessary health precautions to ensure the safety of our community, customers, staff and volunteers. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this time.

Please note our new shopping guidelines:

  • We will allow a limited number of customers into the store for up to an hour at a time. Please use the queuing line at the front entrance of the store.
  • Facemasks will be required to enter the store until further notice.
  • Please follow the marked paths and directional arrows throughout the store.
  • We have installed vapor shields at the register.
  • The store will be cleaned and sanitized on a regular basis.

Our Donation Dock will be open with a limited capacity to accept donations.

Due to an overwhelming response in donations, and limited storage space and volunteers, we have a limited capacity for larger donations at this time. We appreciate the generosity of our community!

  • Clothing donations can be made at the drop box in front of our store or at any of our other drop box locations (https://www.marketstreet.org/thrift-store/).
  • Donation Dock Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday – Saturday, Closed Wednesdays. Please bring in all donations between the hours of 9:00AM-3:30PM.
  • If you have non-clothing or larger items, please call us before coming to drop them off – 973-538-0427. This will save you and our team the disappointment of having to turn your donations away due to being full. Please limit household goods donations to a maximum of 5 boxes.
  • We are unable to pick up clothing or household goods at this time.

If you have a donation pickup request,

we appreciate your patience and understanding as we are temporarily scaling back our donation pick ups. We will continue to schedule furniture pick ups in a very limited capacity and some fees may apply for larger items that we are unable to redistribute. Please note our new donation pickup requirements:

  • Please email photos of each item to dispatch@marketstreet.org. Please include your name, address and phone number.
  • Once we evaluate our availability and storage space for your items, we will contact you to schedule a pickup. Please note that our pick up schedule is currently booking at least 30 days out. (Our standard fees still apply.)
  • All furniture and donated items must be placed outside of the living space of your home (either in the garage, porch or outside). Unfortunately, we will not be able to enter your home at this time.
  • If you are unable to meet the above guidelines, we are committed to scheduling the pickup of your items at a later date once we are able to resume our normal operation (within the next three months).

We thank you for your understanding and patience in this matter. Thank you for your support! We look forward to seeing you soon!

Our Thrift Store has great deals on gently used items – but that’s just the beginning!

Every donation made means low-income people in our community have a place to shop. And every purchase at our stores help fund our Life Change Program. Many of the men in our program then get hands-on training by working in our Thrift Store, which gives them real-life job experience for when they return to our community.

By donating and shopping at our Thrift Store, you’re helping change countless lives.

The Market Street Mission maintains a 25,000 square foot industrial center, which houses the Thrift Store and Warehouse, at the end of George Street off Martin Luther King Avenue. Among the items offered for sale at bargain prices are new and used furniture, clothing, housewares, appliances, sporting goods, office furnishings, and knick-knacks. The Thrift Store accepts donations of most items except toys, books, medical equipment, baby furniture and damaged furniture. Donations are tax-deductible, and all proceeds benefit the Mission.
