06 Jul BIG NEWS – WE’RE EXPANDING TO PATERSON!
The Board of Directors and leadership of the Market Street Mission, providing meals, shelter, and life changing addiction recovery in Morristown, NJ since 1889, are thrilled to announce an expansion of services into Paterson, NJ! The Good Shepherd Mission in Paterson is joining the Market Street Mission family, using Market Street’s 136 years of experience to continue Good Shepherd’s transformative work in the community. Moving forward, this location will be known as the Market Street Mission – Good Shepherd.
“The Good Shepherd Mission in Paterson has served to bring about rescue, redemption and restoration to men and their families in and around Paterson for decades. The Market Street Mission is honored to continue the mission of providing meals, shelter and hope to our neighbors in need,” says Market Street Board Chair AJ Rice. Rice adds, “We’re grateful for the work of Pastor Greg and The Good Shepherd Mission, and we look forward to adopting this location into the Market Street family and continuing to meet the needs of our community.”
The Market Street Mission – Good Shepherd will serve the Paterson area through overnight shelter for men struggling with homelessness and our Life Change Addiction Recovery Program for men looking to break free from addiction, all provided free of charge to neighbors in need.
Homelessness and addiction are serious issues in the Passaic County and Paterson communities. According to the Monarch Housing Associates 2024 Point in Time Survey, 710 people in Passaic County are experiencing homelessness on a given night – an 81% increase over 2023. Of those 710 people, 411 were counted in Paterson, and 131 reported struggling with a substance use disorder. Additionally, NJCARES.gov reports more than 130 overdose deaths in Passaic County in 2023, and the US Census Bureau reports that 23.6% of the Paterson population is living in poverty.
In the face of this need, the Market Street Mission is ready to continue the work of The Good Shepherd Mission, bringing hope and healing to our neighbors in need. Much the same way that our Market Street Mission locations in Morris, Monmouth, and Sussex Counties have been a beacon of hope for men and their families, we trust that the Market Street Mission – Good Shepherd will provide that same hope in Passaic and Bergen Counties, too.
