Long lines of men, women and children huddled under umbrellas in a heavy downpour as they waited their turn to enter the Market Street Mission for Saturday’s 24th Annual Coat Giveaway.
Usually held on the Morristown Green, the inclement weather caused the event to be held at the Mission's location at 9 Market Street.
The free new and gently-used coats and jackets were donated by area residents, churches and corporations.
“We have thousands of coats,” said Nancy Motley, volunteer coordinator for the event. “It’s such a blessing. All those coats are donated, gently-used coats and then they're freely given so we can give them away. It's wonderful that the community helped us out with all these coats.”
